This
section comprises a discussion about the variety of
New Media Resource products which are available. Discussion
will include multimedia CD-ROMs, DVD-ROMs, and website
products and programs on the Internet.
A specific discussion will occur that introduces digital
products as A or B products:
Type
"A"
Teachers will be introduced to A-type products as those
which have been specifically designed for direct use
within the classroom. These have been constructed for
a very specific learning situation such as "Addition
in Math," or "Phonics in Language Arts."
Teachers will be shown that A-type products are very
easy to implement in classroom situations. These types
of products are constructed with all classroom requirements
built into their programs. As a result, they can be
implemented with a sense of confidence by teachers.
Type "B"
Teachers will be shown how Type "B" products
are those which may not have originally been constructed
for classroom environments, but which have inherent
learning potential. Because these types of products
do not contain all classroom requirements, they need
to be "prepared" for classroom use. This preparation
involves the development of external resources containing
requirements. These external resources are then included
as part of the complete classroom product. After appropriate
preparation, these products can also be implemented
with a sense of confidence by classroom teachers.
